Traders count losses as fire guts 3-storey building in lagos

SCORES of traders were on Thursday bemoaning their fate as a three-storey building at number 587, Awori Bus Stop area of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway went up in flames.
According to information gathered by the Nigerian Tribune, trouble started when one of the generators used at the topmost floor of the building reportedly exploded resulting in flames which destroyed many of the shops on the floor.
An eyewitness revealed to the Nigerian Tribune that the fire started at around 9.00a.m. but added that some of the shop owners had used the little resources available to them to battle the fire before the arrival of state fire service.
When the Nigerian Tribune arrived at the scene at around 11.00 a.m, parts of the roof were observed to still in flames, while a group of fully kitted fire fighters were seen breaking the roofs so as to give room for easy contact with water.
The building played host to no fewer than 30 shops where traders sold diverse wares such as electronics, while other shops were used for other forms of businesses including service delivery.
A full section of the building had been converted into a brothel, while one of the shops on the middle floor served as a church.
The task of the fire servicemen, according to the Nigerian Tribune’s observations, was somehow aided by a light shower which helped in putting an end to the fire.
No record of any causality was available as of press time.
