Inspector
General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, has put all police formations
in the country on the alert in readiness for a peaceful celebration of
the Democracy Day anniversary in the country.
A statement on Tuesday by the Deputy
Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, stated that Abubakar had
issued a directive to all Zonal Assistant Inspector Generals and the
Commissioners of Police to ensure full deployment of their men and
resources in line with the objective to have a hitch-free Democracy Day
anniversary celebration.
The IGP was also quoted as having
directed the AIG in charge of the Air-Wing to ensure aerial patrol of
the Federal Capital Territory and other states of the federation.
Mba stated similar directives were given
to the AIG in charge of Border Patrol to ensure the prevention of cross
border crimes during the anniversary.
He said, “He has further directed the
AIG Border Patrol to ensure that the nation’s borders are effectively
manned to prevent any cross-border crime.
“The AIG Air-Wing has also been directed to provide aerial patrol for the FCT and other states.”
Mba quoted the IGP as having urged his
men to give the deserved commitment to the protection of democratic
governance and the respect of the fundamental human rights of the
citizens.
The IGP warned that police officers caught interfering with politics would be sanctioned appropriately.
Abubakar pledged the continuing loyalty of the Police to the sustenance of democratic governance and the Nigerian people.
