Missing: 17-year-old Georgia Williams has not been seen since Sunday evening
Police
said yesterday they were ‘increasingly concerned’ for the safety of a
17-year-old aspiring model who vanished after visiting a friend for a
photoshoot.
Georgia Williams
was supposed to meet her boyfriend Matthew Bird on Monday morning to
travel to a music festival but failed to turn up.
The
redhead was last seen on Sunday evening when she left her family home
in the Shropshire market town of Wellington to visit that of Jamie
Reynolds nearby for the photo session.
Mr
Reynolds, 22, was arrested in the early hours yesterday at a budget
hotel in Glasgow 280 miles away on behalf of West Mercia Police – the
force for which Miss Williams’s father Stephen works as a detective
constable.
Friends yesterday
claimed shop worker Mr Reynolds had unsuccessfully asked Miss Williams
for dates, including one on Valentine’s Day.
Within
the last month, he had revealed on social networking sites his
heartache after falling ‘hopelessly in love with a girl’ who had started
dating somebody else.
Miss Williams, an RAF cadet, has been in a six-week relationship with fellow college student Mr Bird, 18.
In her final Tweet the former head girl told friends she was worried about something.
The
Tweet, posted at 10.36am on Sunday – nine hours before she disappeared –
said: ‘Worst nights sleep in ages. #needsleep #stuffonmind now can’t
get back to sleep.’
Police said the Tweet was not believed to be relevant to the investigation.
Arrested: Jamie Reynolds, 22, of Telford, Shropshire, was yesterday named as the suspect in the case
Disappeared: Police believe the red-haired 5ft 3in teenager may have been travelling with a 22-year-old man
Earlier tweet: She had revealed to friends she had 'stuff on her mind' nine hours before going missing

Stephen Williams, 57, his wife
Lynette, 52, and daughters Scarlett, 22, and Roxy, 13, were said to be
‘devastated and distraught’ yesterday.
Superintendent
Nav Malik, who is leading the investigation, said Miss Williams had
never gone missing before and had missed her first driving lesson –
which she had been looking forward to – since she was last seen.
Supt
Malik said the force was becoming ‘increasingly concerned’ for Miss
Williams’ welfare. He said the man under arrest was currently the
force’s ‘only suspect’.
The
officer said Miss Williams was known to have taken her phone with her
when she left home on Sunday night, and officers were desperate to
locate the device.
Vehicle: Police said the man was driving a silver Toyota Hiace 300 GS van (pictured), registration CX06 ASV
Investigation: The suspect's vehicle is taken away by police officers from a car park in Glasgow city centre
Concerns: West Mercia Police are keen to hear from anyone who has seen Georgia since Sunday afternoon
It is thought Mr and Mrs Williams believed their daughter had let herself back in to the house on Sunday evening.
They discovered she was missing on Monday morning.
By then she had failed to keep the rendezvous with her boyfriend to go to the music festival in Wolverhampton.
Mr
Reynolds lives with his mother Kay, said by neighbours to be a teacher,
stepfather Shaun Thomas, an electrician, and sister Brogan, 19, in a
neat three-bedroom semi in Wellington.
Neighbours said the couple were understood to be on holiday in Italy.
Police
previously put out information about a silver Toyota Hiace van they
believe was used by the suspect to travel from Shropshire to Glasgow.
Officers
said the vehicle was captured on Automatic Number Plate Recognition
cameras travelling through Oswestry, Rhyl, Chester and Cumbria but the
images did not show who was inside.

missing since Sunday, is pictured in her prom dress, left, and posing

Searching: Forensic officers were seen investigating this property in Wellington, Shropshire

‘We cannot say if Georgia went
in that vehicle along that route,’ said Supt Malik. He added that the
force currently had ‘nothing to link’ Miss Williams to the van.
Police
said the van is believed to have left the Telford area on Monday
lunchtime, arriving in Glasgow 24 hours later after stopping at a truck
stop overnight. It was found in a car park in Glasgow.
A Premier Inn in the city was being searched yesterday.
House: This is Reynolds's £150,000 three-bedroom home in Telford where he lives with his mother Kay, 49
Fears: Superintendent Nav Malik told a press conference that West Mercia Police are 'gravely concerned'
Concerns: Georgia is seen here with her father Stephen Williams
Katy Lafferty, 17, a friend of Miss
Williams, said Mr Reynolds had made it clear he had ‘fancied’ Georgia,
although she ‘just told him that their relationship was nothing more
than a friendship’.
Miss Lafferty, from Telford, said she spent Saturday shopping with Miss Williams.
Her mother, Shelley, said Miss Williams’s parents had called her on Monday to find out if Katy had seen their daughter.
Mr
Reynolds and Miss Williams are both thought to have attended Ercall
Wood Technology College in Wellington where Miss Williams had been head
girl.
She is now studying for A-levels at New College in the town.
On her Facebook page Miss Williams says she began a relationship with fellow New College student Matthew Bird on April 5.
Last
night Mr Bird, who was said to work part-time for the Next fashion
chain, posted a desperate appeal on Facebook for information about his
girlfriend’s whereabouts.
He
wrote: ‘I love you so much Georgia Williams you mean the world to me
please just come back or get in contact with us. I need you and I miss
you so much’.
REYNOLDS 'WAS REJECTED BY GEORGIA IN VALENTINE'S DAY REQUEST'
Request: Reynolds had asked Georgia if she would go with him to an 'Anti-Valentine's Day' party
Reynolds was apparently rejected by Georgia after he asked her out for Valentine’s Day, it emerged.
Three
weeks ago Reynolds also revealed on a social networking website his
heartache after falling ‘hopelessly in love with a girl’ who had started
dating someone else.
In reply to a question from someone who asked ‘Who was the last person you kissed?’ Reynolds wrote: ‘Georgia.’
Earlier
this year he asked Georgia if she would go with him to an
‘Anti-Valentine’s Day’ party but she turned him down. Reynolds asked:
‘What are your plans for the Valentine’s Day?’
Georgia replied: ‘Don’t have any :’)’
Reynolds asked: ‘Why don’t you have Valentine’s plans?’
Georgia replied: ‘Because I’m a loner :’)’
Reynolds asked: ‘Coming to the Anti-Valentine’s party?’
Georgia replied: ‘Where? Ahahaaa, and do I even know you? :L’
Reynolds said: ‘Well maybe you should be less “busy” then you can have some Valentine’s plans ;)’
Georgia replied: ‘I’m good thanks, Jamie.’
