THE Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Kaduna State has
arrested 103 illegal aliens and vowed to deport them to Niger Republic
immediately.
The state Comptroller of NIS in Kaduna State, Hamman Yerima, who paraded the aliens on Monday, told newsmen that most of the illegal aliens were arrested in Government Reserved Areas (GRA) of Kaduna, while those with valid immigration documents were released.
Yerima said the command conducted mop-up operations in Kachia Local Government Area of the state on May 26 and arrested 25 illegal immigrants.
“The next day, we also conducted an operation in high brow areas of Kaduna North, that is, Ungwan Rimi
GRA, Malali GRA, Ungwan Dosa and Marafa, where we arrested 59 suspects.
“Then, at the toll gate, we also arrested 17 suspects and earlier, we arrested two suspects. So in all, we have arrested 103 suspects. And all these suspects are going to be repatriated this evening (Monday) by the special grace of God. They are all Nigeriens. They are into menial jobs. They can be lured with small amount of money to do anything. We are sending them back by road.
“He cited a particular case in Kaduna North, where some Nigerians tried to prevent them from arresting illegal aliens, which led to the arrest one of the Nigerians who was later punished and allowed to go by the operatives.
“Our borders are still in porous condition and nothing seems to be done about them. I think these borders need more equipment, more logistics in terms of vehicles, communication equipment and even the moribund border patrol aircrafts should be revived.
“Honestly, the type of aircraft we are using, the N288 is not the type that we should even use for border patrol. Though they are well-equipped, they cannot land immediately at a required location, but helicopter can do it without blinking.”
