Armed men abduct wife of former perm sec in Bayelsa

Armed men, at the weekend, unleashed mayhem on the Bayelsa State capital, with the abduction of the 60 year-old wife of a retired Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Anne Ziwariote.
Also injured in separate attacks was the wife of the Special Assistant  on Radio to the Bayelsa Governor, Mrs Vivian Ekior Benson.
The incidents,which occurred on Saturday night along the Biogbolo and Otiotio Areas of the state capital, caught the operatives of the State Security outfit,Operation Door Akpor unaware.
 While Mrs Ziwariote was abducted along with her vehicle Otiotio area of the state, Mrs Benson was injured with the butt of a rifle for refusing to part with the key to her Toyota Siena car.
Nigerian Tribune gathered from the Ziwariote Family source that the kidnappers had demanded for the sum of N5 million for the release of the retired Director at the Bayelsa State Primary School Board.
Confirming the attack on his wife, the Special Assistant to the Bayelsa Governor on radio, Mr. Benson Ekio, said though a formal report has been made to the police,”the armed men that attacked my wife came in a red Golf car and were later apprehended along the INEC road area by a detachment of Police Patrol team.”
“We were asked to go to the Ekeki Divisional Police Headquarters to await the bringing of the suspects, but later discovered that they disappeared into thin air with the suspects.”
 Contacted on the development, the Spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, Mr.Alex Akhigbe, said though he was yet to receive full details on the incidents, olice effort at ensuring the security of life and property in the state had led to the discovery of a huge cache of Arms and ammunitions in the Koluama Community of Southern Ijaw Local Government  Area of the state.
 According to Akhigbe,”our Special Anti-Crime unit known as Operation Door Akpoor on Sunday, May 26th launched a search operation in Koluama Community in Southern Ijaw Area of the State and discovered eight Pump Action guns, five Ak 47 rifles,1,780 live ammunitions and 19 empty cartridges buried in a room.”He said the Police had commenced investigation into the discovery and would identify the owners of the arms.
