Among the five people arrested by the Lagos State Police Command is a seven months old pregnant lady, who has already sold her unborn baby for N200, 000.
The lady, Adaeze Mba, 23, said her husband Chibeze Mba, sold their unborn baby to Mrs. Benedicta Ogbonna, an alleged child trafficker and owner of a motherless babies’ home for N200, 000 even before the baby was born.
The unborn baby is however not the first baby, belonging to Chibeze Mba, which he had sold.
According to him, he sold his first  baby, a  boy, from an ex-lover called Ojiugo for N100, 000. He claimed that he sold the baby as usual to Mrs.Ogbonna, who only paid him N30, 000, explaining to him that the baby mother collected N70, 000 balances and disappeared.
Mr. and Mrs. Mba were actually arrested for stealing and selling three children belonging to another people.
One of the babies they stole and sold for N400, 000 was a three months old baby, who is now a year old.
Another child is four year old Stanley Esiaka.  He was stolen from his parents’ home at the Jakande area of Lagos State. After stealing the boy, they travelled down to Onitsha, Anambra State and sold him to Ogbonna.
Police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, said: “On March 14, 2013, a case of a missing person was reported at Ileba-Hausa Police Station. The complainant was one Caleb. He said that his four-year-old son went missing during the night, that he left him in the company of Chibeze. Attempts made to get Chibeze on his phone were futile as he had already switched off. The phone of his wife, Adaeze was also switched off.
“Detectives, who investigated the case, traced them to Akwa-Ibom and arrested them. They confessed to have taken and sold Stanley to Benedicta for N400, 000. The said Benedicta stays at Onitsha. Police also went to Onitsha and arrested Benedicta, who confessed that she sold she had already sold the baby to another person for N600,000.
“On further interrogation Chibeze confessed to have been in the business for years. Investigations also revealed that the couple had stolen two kids from two different couples and sold them. Benedicta seemed to be a child trafficker. She confessed that she used to buy baby boy for N400, 000 and girl for N300,000 from Chibeze.”
Adaeze however claimed that she and her husband did not steal first baby, neither did they stole Stanley.
She said: “The mother of the baby is an imbecile. She said she hadn’t money to take care of the baby. She gave the baby to my husband. My husband was supposed to give some money, but police arrested us before we could give her any money.
“As for Stanley, he followed me when I was going to buy buns. I didn’t steal him. My husband now said that his madam, Mrs. Ogbonna wanted another baby. He now sold him to her.”
Ogbonna on the other hand, insisted that she does not own a motherless babies’ home and had only collected three children from Chibeze.
