Among the 130 members of a notorious armed robbery gang allegedly
arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, is a 10-year-old boy.
He boy identified himself as
Okecwhukwe James.
James was alleged to be the
amourer of the robbery gang, otherwise known as ‘One million and one gang.’
Police detectives believe that the gang picked
on James because of his age.
“Nobody will believe that such
an innocent looking boy could be in possession of a gun,” said a
policeman.
James said that he was
arrested right in the presence of his mother and Father.
It was shocking to also discover
that a gun was found in their apartment.
While police insisted that the
gun belonged to the 10-year-old, the boy had insisted that it belonged to his
elder brother.
His words: “It was my elder brother who brought the gun
home and asked me to keep it for him. I have never in my life touched a gun. I
was in our two room apartment when the policemen walked in and ordered me to
follow them.
“I was supposed to be in school that very day.
I however didn’t go to school because I don’t have a school uniform. People
should help me. I'm not the owner of the gun and the live cartridges found in
our house!”
James elder brother could not
be reached for comment as he was still being held in the Lagos State Ministry
of Environment Task Force Black Maria vehicle.
