Fire guts Church’s five storey building in Lagos


A five storey buiding on  Davies Street Lagos Island, belonging to Saint Paul Breadfruit Anglican Church, has been raized by fire, which started on Saturday afternoon,
According to an eye witness account, the incident was said to have commenced from the spark in the electrical apparatus in one of the multi purpose shopping complex said to be over three decades old.

The inferno which was said to have started at about 4 pm on Saturday left the 5th and 4th floors of the building collapsing on the impact of the huge fire, which fire fighters from various units of  the Lagos State Fire Service were still battling with on Sunday.

Although no official of the St Paul Anglican Church was available for comment on the incident, bu the Lagos State Governor Mr. Babatunde Fashola on his visit to the fir site on Sunday ordered that the place be shut indefinitely, pending the unraveling of the cause of the the incident.

Goods estimated at hundred of millions of Naira were said to have been lost to the fire, which raized the two top floors of the building, as occupants were unable to salvage their wares while the fire lasted.

Other occupants of the third, second and ground floors of the shopping complex, whose goods were not affected by the inferno were seen milling around the building to in anticipation of getting their goods out of the burnt building.
