Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo of a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, on Tuesday, fixed the trial of Mamman Nasir, son of the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Ahmadu Ali and others for November 12 as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) could not commence the prosecution.
Mamman, Nasaman Oil Services and Christian Taylor are facing trial on allegations of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence, forgery and the use of false documents.
At the resumed hearing of the matter, the EFCC counsel, Francis Usani, informed the court that the matter had earlier been adjourned till Tuesday for trial, but explained that the anti- graft agency would not be able to continue with the trial because of what he termed pressing issues which would assist the court in the true dispensation of justice.
“The prosecution intends to join one Seun Ogunbambo as defendant in the matter. This is because as of the time the charge was filed, information relating to ogunbambo had not reached the EFCC,” Usani stated.
The defence counsel, Toyin Pinheiro (SAN), while responding, did not object to the submissions of the EFCC.
“We would wait for the amendment of the charge to be effected. Though I know the defendants have no case to answer,” Pinheiro submitted.
Mamman as well as directors of some oil-marketing firms in the matter had earlier been arraigned and granted bail by Justice Onigbanjo.
