Bomb explosions in Bauchi: four burnt to death

There was a twin bomb explosion in Gudun Hausawa and Zango area in Bauchi Metropolis on Wednesday night just as four people were burnt to daeth in a bloody bus attack in Gwatukuru near Dass. One of the explosions destroyed the pulpit of the COCIN Church in Zango and a building near the church while the second explosion destroyed a fence in Gudum Sayawa.
There were no casualties in both explosions. Last month nine elderly citizens were shot dead in Zango area. A week later, three were killed when a suicide bomber attempted to bomb St. John Catholic Church, Bauchi Daily Sun learnt that the bomb planted in the pulpit of the COCIN Church in Zango exploded at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday night, almost at the same time with the one that exploded in Gudum Hausawa.
The man whose house is adjacent to the church in Zango was affected, he said he saw two men on motorcycle who came to the church that night but thought they were members of the church on patrol. “The explosion occurred few minutes after they left, taking the two security men in the church by surprise,” the man who pleaded anonymity told Daily Sun. No life was lost in the two explosions but the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Lawi Pokti, said the development had sent fear and panic among residents particularly Christians in the state.
Pokti called on Christians to remain calm and watch what they said and not imitate “this increasing evil and wickedness,” just as he appealed to the security operatives to be proactive in handling the current insecurity in the state. Meanwhile, some people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have attacked a bus killing four people yesterday in Gwatukuru village near Dass Local Government Area in Bauchi State. Nine people were seriously injured after the bus with registration number AA 82 TFB belonging to the Seyawa Council of Elders and Traditional Rulers was set ablaze.
Mr Bukata Zyadi, the Secretary of the Sayawa Concil of Elders said the victims were burnt to ashes while the injured had been taken to various hospitals in Plateau State and some to Dass. He said four of the injured were rushed to Jos, five were undergoing surgery in Dass General Hospital, seven were in the emergency unit while two were safe. Zyadi said the attack was carried out by the “Hausa Fulani people.” He accused the administration of Isa Yuguda of supporting the killings of the Sayawa people by the Fulani Herdsmen because “they are his Fulani people.”
He said peace would continue to elude the area because the state government had clearly shown bias as “security has completely broken down even the presence of the JTF in the area has not stopped the killings.” But Amin Tukur, a spokesman of the Fulani in the area condemned the recent killing, saying that as a responsible citizen, whosoever believed to have carried out the killings stood to be condemned. Speaking with Daily Sun on telephone, Tukur said, “It is condemnable by my person and the people I represent. It is unfortunate. What we want is peace. The government must live up to its responsibility of safeguarding lives and property of the people.
“The bottom line is, are we really ready to live with one another? Do we believe that we are a plural society? I have never in my life subscribed to tribal sentiments and we condemn these killings. “The issues is that even if we bring all the security agencies of this country to the area and the people are not ready to talk, dialogue, then it will be impossible to have peace in Tafawa Balewa because the security people are not God. The people need to dialogue.”
Efforts by our correspondent to get the Police Commissioner, Mohammed Ladan to comment on the two incidents failed. The commissioner who answered the first call said he was in a meeting and asked the reporter to call later. He was sent a text message followed by repeated calls which were ignored by the police boss.
