Gunmen kidnap Rep's mother in Ogun


Gunmen numbering about six have kidnapped the mother of a House of Representatives member, Abiodun Abudu-Balogun, in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Alhaja Obedatu Abudu-Balogun was said to have been kidnapped from her residence at Ita–Otu area of Ogun Waterside about 9:30p.m. on Monday.

The incident came barely 24 hours after bandits killed five policemen and two civilians in Abeokuta and Ibafo areas of the state.

In the incidents, two other policemen also reportedly sustained injuries and were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

Abudu-Balogun, who is the Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Internal Security, confirmed the kidnapping of his mother yesterday.

The lawmaker, an Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) member representing Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, however, described the incident as "too painful."

He stated that the suspected kidnappers were yet to contact the family for any demands.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said the police command was yet to be informed about the kidnapping.
