The Lagos
State government has concluded plans to crush 3000 seized motorbikes.
The motorbikes
were mostly seized from commercial cyclists, who allegedly flouted the state’s
new traffic laws.
The seizing
of the 3000 motorbikes is equivalent to depriving 3000 families of their means
of livelihood, especially in a country, where there is no employment.
It is also
means likely increase in crime and robberies, since most of the commercial bike
riders in Lagos State, seem not to have alternative means of making money.
In the new traffic
laws in Lagos, there is no room for bailing of impounded motorbikes or
vehicles.
One of the
laws stipulates that any vehicle or motorbike impounded for flouting traffic law
immediately becomes the property of the state government.
The motorbikes
would be crushed because the government had no use for them in the scheme of
things in the government policy, unlike ceased vehicles.
