Police begin construction of N12m conference hall

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Uyo, has begun the construction of a 200 sitting capacity conference hall.
The conference hall which is to be constructed through direct labour will cost about N12m.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Gbadabe, said on Monday in Uyo that it would take the command at least four months to complete the hall.
He stated that since the construction was being handled by the police direct labour unit, progress on the site would depend on the availability of materials.
He asserted that the hall would be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
Gbadabe said, “The size of the new conference hall is bigger than the former one. The facility will have three toilets and a bar.
“When there is a conference, officers and men of the police force are not expected to go out and look for where they will ease themselves. Everything, down to light refreshment will be done in the conference hall.
“The project will cost us not less than N12m. Construction firms like Julius Berger and China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation have decided to provide us with building materials to the finishing stages. Some banks have also pledged to support the building project.”
He observed that there are many delayed infrastructure in many police formations in the command, adding that formations like MOPOL 26 Base were without standard fences.
He said the development had led to trespass of police land by members of the public and other criminal elements.
The officer in charge of Works Department, Asuabiat Harry, thanked Gbadabe for giving him a chance to embark on the project.
