Those involve in the murder of the four UNIPORT students will not go unpunished- IG

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Abubakar today at the Murtala International airport said that the Police had commenced investigation into murder of four students of the University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt by vigilante group for alleged stealing.
Abubakra also revealed that there are no fewer than 4,000 Nigerians in various prisons in Turkey.
The IGP, who looked weary, after embarking from a flight coming Turkey, vowed that the killers of the youngsters would be fished out no matter what.
This was even as he declined to reveal the number of people that had been arrested in connection with the murder so far.
Fielding questions from journalists, insisted that those involved in the crime would not go unpunished.
His words: “I’m aware of the situation and I’ve been briefed on this even while in Turkey. We are on it and we have commenced investigation into the incident. The investigation will tell what exactly happened. But I want to assure all Nigerians that we are doing our best to fish out the culprits of that very ugly incident and we shall not under my administration and this government, tolerate any barbaric act in this country.
“You will hear from me as soon as I get briefed from the commissioner of police in that state and the zonal AIG based on their documentations, and then we will let you know. But I can assure you that investigation is on and I don’t want to give you the number of people who have been arrested so far.”
On his summon by the House of Representatives, Abubakar said he was yet to see the letter of summon, but explained that he would appear before the House on security issues in the country, which had been on the decline in recent years.

“You are telling me I’ve been summoned, but I haven’t seen the letter to know the content of the letter and what I’m supposed to appear in the House for, but for whatever it is, it is for security reason and the security of this country, I will appear before the House and give a brief on the security situation of the country, which I do know in this country.”
On the recent killings of couple in Lagos and students in Adamawa State, Abubakar said that the issues were still under investigations by the police, stressing that the issues were all receiving attention and progressing.
He stated that the issues required serious investigations from the police, adding that on assumption of office, he had been harping on the collaboration between the police and the community people to prevent crimes in the country.
He emphasised that for police to carry out effective works, it needed the collaboration between it and the community people, especially the traditional rulers.
“People need to co-operate with the police because police alone cannot give you answer to all the security situations in this country, but we can do our best based on our trainings to be able to fish out criminal wherever they are with the collaboration of the people of the country.

“Traditional rulers have a very big responsibility to play in security of their domain and every Nigerian too has responsibility to assist the police to unravel security challenges. This is the only country in the world where murders are being committed, we just have to go digging, but in other countries of the world, the answers are in the hands of the people and they are willingly and freely to offer information.”
On the number of Nigerians in Turkish prisons, he said that various Nigerians are regularly arrested for different crimes, ranging from drug to trafficking.
He said it was pertinent to collaborate with the Turkish country, which had gone through the same security challenges currently facing Nigeria, stressing that the country would soon sign a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Turkey.
