Two suspects, Ibrahim Patrick and Jesse James, were on Friday
arrested after they allegedly stole two Bajaj motorcycles with
registration numbers QP 370 AKD and GGE 750 QC from Ansar-Ud-Deen mosque
at Oluyole area of Ibadan, Oyo State, while Jumat prayer was going on.
According to information gathered, one of the owners of the stolen motorcycles, Kabiru Imoru, had raised the alarm when he came out of the mosque and met the padlock he used to lock the motorcycle on the ground broken without the bike in sight.
After a distress call was received, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Oluyole Division, Sam Oke, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, ordered one of the Division’s police patrol team to go after the hoodlums.
The two suspects were seen while pushing one of the missing motorcycles away at a junction close to the mosque, and were promptly arrested by the police.
The motorcycle, with registration number GGE 750 QC, was recovered from them, while the other one, belonging to one Adewale Noah, could not be seen.
During interrogation, Patrick and James, who claimed that the theft was the first they would be carrying out, denied breaking the padlock, saying that they did not meet the motorcycle locked.
They also said that they were not the ones who stole the other missing motorcycle, but mentioned a colleague of theirs, who belongs to another gang, as being the likely culprit.
Confirming the story, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olabisi-Okuwobi Ilobanafor, said that the suspects’ arrest showed the determination of the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Indabawa, towards making the state hot for criminally-minded people.
The PPRO added that they would be transferred to the appropriate section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.
