A Chief Magistrate in Gboko area of Benue State, M.T. Ugah, has
ordered 18-year-old Ageebee Iorja, of Tom-Atar, in Gboko South to be
remanded in prison for allegedly raping and abusing two sisters, aged
five and seven.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Samuel Igba, told the court that one
Mrs Beatrice Akaayar, of the same address, reported at Gboko Police A
Division how she was searching for the two girls whose whereabouts were
unknown.
The prosecutor further said Mrs Akaayar, in the process of looking
for the minors, she got attracted by their cry in a bush within the
environment and on getting there, saw the accused under a mango tree,
raping the seven-year-old girl.
The prosecutor said police instantly swung into action when the case
was reported at the station and the accused was arrested. He argued that
the offense was a contravention of section 287 of the penal code, but
the accused pleaded not guilty when charges were read, while prosecutor
asked for another date to enable the police conclude investigation and
also seek relevant advice from the Ministry for Justice.
Ugar ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to November 21, 2013 for further mention.
