Another bloody weekend: Tanker explosion kills 6 in Kaduna •Robbers kill 3 in Lagos


Tragedy struck at Marraban Jos in Igabi Local Government area of Kaduna State, on Saturday, as six people were burnt to death when a fuel tanker involved in an accident exploded, leaving one person critically injured.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Kaduna State, Mr Olumike Olagunju, told newsmen that the accident occurred at about 2.00a.m on Saturday, when a tanker loaded with fuel was reversing from a car wash into the highway collided with an oncoming trailer on the service lane while the tanker caught fire instantly.
Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State, who was at the scene of accident, expressed shock and assured that government would take necessary action to stop the problem of parking of articulated vehicles at Marraban Jos. He sympathised with the victims and prayed for the dead.
According to the FRSC Sector Commander, the attention of the command was drawn to the incident and his men were immediately mobilised to the scene but could not do much because of the intensity of the fire until operatives of the fire service arrived.
 He said traffic on the ever busy highway was being controlled as his men had removed the burnt tanker and the goods  of the trailer were also off loaded.
“The accident involved a fuel tanker reversing from a car wash into  the highway which collided with an oncoming trailer on a service lane leading to the tanker catching fire. About ten persons were  involved, six got burnt to death, one injured and we were able  to rescue three persons.”
 “A luxurious bus which was on the fast lane side by side the trailer managed to escape, the corpse of the burnt persons have been handed over to the Petroleum Tankers Drivers Association (PTD) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) while the injured person is receiving treatment,” he said.
Robbers kill three in Lagos; policeman, NSCDC officer die in hit-and-run
Three people, including a night guard, were on Friday, killed  while another person was injured by a gang of armed  robbers, who invaded Ilapo village in Alagbado area of Lagos State.
An unidentified policeman and an official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Adenekan,  were on Saturday killed by a hit and run driver in the state as well.  
Residents of Sodeke and Church streets at Okolie petrol area of Ilapo village  were early, on Friday, woken up by a gang of armed robbers, who invaded the area.
At the end of the attack, two cousins, Fatai Ogunsola and Aremu Salisu  and a security man, were killed while another security man was shot in the leg.
At the deceased’s (Ogunsola’s) house, the armed robbers made away with money, mobile phones, jewelry and other valuables.
A son to Salisu, Rafiu, while speaking with Sunday Tribune  said the robbers had not gained entry into their apartment before they shot his father.
Rafiu said, “they were trying to forcefully enter our house, but when my father approached the entrance, one of them shot him in the head and he died instantly.”
Before  the armed robbers  raided the houses, they  had succeeded  in killing one of the security men on guard.
The attack on the  security men was said to be a reprisal, after the security men had reportedly prevented the armed robbers from operating in the area and succeeded in killing one of them recently.
The armed robbers ensured that they killed one of the security men, sliced his throat  and ensured that he was not taken to the hospital before leaving the area.
In another incident, a policeman and an official of the NSCDC  were crushed to death by a hit and run driver on Saturday at Ikeja.
Another unidentified policeman was also injured in the incident, during efforts to rescue occupants of vehicles, which were involved in a multiple accidents at Ikeja.
