The attack happened in front of Ambrose Ali University on their way to their home town, Irua near Ekpoma.
It was learnt that the driver who was conveying the Ekhomu’s family died in the attack.
A friend of the Ekhomus, who confided in Saturday Sun, said Dr Ekhomu was shot in the hand and was receiving treatment in the hospital while his wife who was abducted by the gunmen was later rescued by a combined team of the State Security Service(SSS) and the Police near Warri in Delta State.
The gunmen were said to have abandoned Victoria when it was clear to them that they were being chased.
The Ekhomus were said to have left with first flight from Lagos to Benin where they took a vehicle to their town but were accosted by the hoodlums who operated in a commando style.
