An Indian national, Mr. Singu Amanpreet, is presently thanking his lucky stars for the timely intervention of Policemen from the marine unit, Lagos State, who rescued him after he fell off a foreign ship identified as MSC MONICA.
Amanpreet, 29, who is currently recuperating in an army hospital located in Ikoyi, was one of the crew members of the ship. He said he had already spent more than five hours in the sea before help came his way.
The grateful Indian also added that he would have been dead since nobody from the MSC MONICA,  he was sailing on, knew he had fallen overboard. Amanpreet was able to stay afloat due to the life jacket he had on. But when help came, he was barely conscious.  He took hours for him to be able to narrate his ordeal. Police had since alerted his crew members about his rescue.
It was gathered that marine police raced to the scene after they received a distress call from other sea users, who sighted a floating body on the sea.
Immediately the Officer in charge of the marine police, Mr. Patrick Elah, a superintendent of police received the distress call, he was said to have ordered one of his Anti-Crime Units team to rush to the area.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, said that the Anti-Crime Unit of the marine police, while on a routine patrol in the Lagos anchorage, at about 5pm, rescued one Singu Amanpreet of Indian national.
Braide said: “He overboard his vessel MSC Monica, that left the Tin-Can Island port Lagos yesterday at 1pm. He was taken to the military hospital for medical attention. He said that he was in the sea waters for well over five hours and if not for the timely intervention of the Nigerian Marine Police, he just might have been dead. We have already notified the ship about his rescue and safety.”
