My father wrongly accused me, 21-year-old who killed father declares

My father wrongly accused me, 21-year-old who killed father declaresAdetoyinbo Olalekan may have secured a place for himself in history books as a son from whose hand his biological father’s life was tragically terminated. TUNDE BUSARI reports
Since November 13 2013 when the incident occurred, it still remains a puzzle among friends and course mates of Adetoyinbo Olalekan at Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, Osun State, why he decided to terminate the life of his father, Ayodele Adetoyinbo.
Saturday Newswatch gathered that Adetoyinbo was a final year student of Political Science and Economics until he allegedly committed the sacrilege against his biological father whose remains are currently kept in the morgue of the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa.
The 21-year-old and incidentally the first born of the family of seven children, said his action became inevitable when his late father attempted to hit him with a stick during a bitter disagreement.  He said the disagreement was provoked by the theft allegation his father slammed on him.
“He alleged that I had come home to carry 10 empty kegs we used to buy palm kernel for the production of soap. He wrongly accused me. I came home only to take my school fees receipt,” he said.
During the struggle with his father, Olalekan was able to overpower him, after which the 56-year old hit the ground, giving room for his son to descend on him and took his life in a most dastardly manner.
It was learnt that contrary to the claim of the suspect, his father’s attempt to collect his house key from him led to the clash.
A source disclosed that there had been a no love lost between father and son lately over the way the son allegedly used one of the rooms in the house.
“The man (deceased) wanted to collect the key from him to block his free access to the room. But the suspect was not ready to part with the key, but ready to dare his father,” the source said.
A team of policemen drafted from the Ijamo Division to the scene at Irojo axis of the ancient town did a good job as they went after Olalekan, who could have escaped save for their prompt response. At the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),Osogbo, Olalekan is filled with regret hoping a miracle would come to his aid to escape justice.
Police Public Relations Officer of Osun State Command, Folashade Odoro, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that investigation was still in progress, while assuring that justice would be done to the matter.
“There is nothing anybody can do about it, the suspect must answer for the allegation. He will soon be charged to court,” Odoro said.
