Rape of undergraduate

Following the rape of a National Diploma Banking and Finance student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic by a member of a the Vigilance Service in Ogun State, the state anti-crime security oufit, has stopped its men from further detaining female suspects.

The ban followed the recent alleged rape of a National Diploma 1 Banking and Finance Student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (names withheld) by an operative of the VSO, Liasu Oyedele.

The member of the Viglance group who raped the undergraduate had been identified as Liasus Oyedele. He had however since being arrested.

The suspect was alleged to have cornered the victim at night for no apparent reason and pounced on her. He was further alleged to have raped the girl for hours.
Reading the riot act to his men at the official opening/ launching of the office and signboard of the Obafemi/Owode Local Government Command, the VSO State Commander, Major Femi Bisiriyu (rtd) said that the operatives should refrain from detaining women in their duty posts.

Bisiriyu however stressed that the VSO operatives should only escort any lady found wandering at night to her destination or immediately hand over any female suspected of any crime to the police.

sounding very worried, he charged: “If you are on duty anywhere and in the night you see any lady, don’t detain her at your duty post. Do not detain the lady for even two minutes. Escort her to wherever she’s going.”
