In continuation of the Nation’s avowed
commitment to global and regional peace and security, the Nigeria Police High
Command has, Tuesday, deployed yet again, three contingents
of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) made up of 400 police personnel in support of
the United Nations (UN) mission in Liberia (UNMIL) and the African Union –
United Nations’ Hybrid operation in Dafur (UNAMID).
During the pre-deployment and
competence demonstration exercise which took place at the Parade Ground of the
Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, the Inspector-General of Police,
IGP MD Abubakar, CFR,
NPM, mni, psc noted
that the Nigeria Police contingents are currently on international peacekeeping
assignments in nine (9) countries, notably: Cote D’voire, Democratic Republic
of Congo, Guinea Bissau, Haiti, Liberia, Sierra-Leone, Somalia, South Sudan and
Sudan. He assured the present contingents that the Police Authorities have made
ample provision for their welfare, material and logistics support and charged
them to be good ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nation at
large.
The high point of the occasion was the
tactical demonstration by the Police Contingents on operational skills and
tactics on Crowd/Riots Control and other ancillary policing strategies in line
with global best practices in policing and the UN standards. Also in attendance
were: His Excellency, Mr. Rof Ree, the Norwegian ambassador to Nigeria, members
of the Police Management Team, Senior Police and Military Officers, including
the Nigeria Defence Attachee to China, Brig. General Aliyu, members of the
Diplomatic Corp and the press.
