The Lagos State Police Command has
arrested a man for allegedly attempting to traffick two sisters.
The suspect, Jude Nnakire, 34, was
arrested by policemen from Ilemba-Hausa Division on May 25.
According to the police, Nnakire was
taking the sisters, Deborah Otim 20 and Gift Otim 17 to an unknown destination,
when police arrested him.
The Lagos State Commissioner of
Police, Mr Edgal Imohimi said: “The arrest was made by policemen from Ilemba-Hausa
Division, after they received a tip-off about Nnakire. During interrogation,
the victims said they reside at No. 26, Obudu Road, Ikom Cross-River State. The
victims were brought to Lagos by one Emeka, whose other names are yet unknown.
The Emeka brought them to Lagos under the guise that he would get them a job.
Investigation has showed that the said Emeka took the girls from Cross-River
State without the consent of their parents. The victims are right now in
protective custody; while efforts are on to locate their biological parents.”
In another development, Imohimi said
that his command recorded another major feat in the arrest of some suspected
armed robbers. These robbers had allegedly been terrorizing residents of
Ajegunle and its environs.
Imohimi explained that the arrest of
the suspects, wouldn’t have been possible, but for community policing and
community safety partnership.
The CP further explained: “On May
22, at about 6:20am, based on reliable information, a police team from Ajeromi
Police Station, Ajegunle, in conjunction with Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)
operatives, intercepted Chinonso Uzor of No. 5, Ikogbe Street, Amukoko. The
suspect was interrogated and confessed to belonging to a robbery gang
terrorizing Ajegunle and its environs.”
According to Imohimi, during execution
of search warrant at his hideout at Akpan Street, Layinka, Ajegunle, a locally
made pistol with one live cartridge was recovered in the ceiling where it was
carefully concealed. Also, on May 24, with the help of Uzor, Seun Alaba,
another member of gang was arrested.
