The Police in Lagos State have arrested 24-year-old Onyeka Patrick for kidnapping and strangling to death a seven-year-old boy, who happened to be his neighbour.
Police spokes person, Ngozi Braide said that: “This is a very pathetic case. By this time last week Saturday, Patrick kidnapped a seven-year-old boy, took him to the back of the house and killed him.

“After killing the boy, he went to the parents gate, pasted a note, demanding for N5m. He also left his phone number on the note. He gave the parents the impression that the boy was still alive. Even when people were crying that the boy had been kidnapped, he joined in crying.
“The boy played into their compound and Patrick lured the boy to the backyard and killed him. Two days later, he went to remove the note, he pasted at the door.

“His elder brother looked at the note and noticed that the hand writing looked exactly like that of his brother Patrick.  That was how the brother handed him over to the police.
“At Ikotun Police Station, he lied repeatedly until he was transferred to Special Anti-robbery Squad, (SARS), Ikeja, where he confessed to the crime.  He led SARS detectives to another part of Ikotun area, where he had dumped the body of the boy into a septic tank after wrapping it in a sack. According to him, he didn’t want to let the boy go after he collected the money because the child would have recognized him, so he had to kill him.”
Patrick, who said he was footballer and also a widow fabric maker, confessed that he killed seven-year-old Ayuba at Mumako Estate, Oke Kube Ikotun, where they all live as good neighbours.
Though he told homicide detectives during interrogation that he had to kill Ayuba to stop the boy from fingering him out he might have collected the ransom, he spurn another yarn for journalists.
According to him, Devil and greed made him to kill Ayuba.
His words: “After I killed him, I felt bad. I couldn’t continue with the negotiation. I had to back out. I dumped his body in a soak away, but the soak away was dry. There were no faeces inside. It was greed and Devil that made me kill Ayuba. His father has about four to five cars. I strangled him to death with my bare hands!”
