For allegedly pouring faeces on five policemen and attempting to
escape from custody, a 22-year-old man, Olumide Ajayi, was on Friday
docked at a Somolu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Ajayi, who lives at No. 17, Ikorodu Road, is facing a three-count
charge of assault and malicious damage. He, however, pleaded not guilty
to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinlebi Adegoke, told the court that the accused
committed the offences on December 27 at Alasela Market and the police
station at Onipanu.
He said Ajayi was arrested and brought to the police station for allegedly assaulting Paul Imoke, a salesman.
“He gave him a blow on his forehead following a disagreement between
him and Imoke, who sold a pair of glasses to him. On arrival at the
station, the accused became violent, vandalised a television set and
poured faeces on the five policemen on duty.
“The accused then attempted to escape from custody before he was caught and charged to court,” Adegoke said.
He gave the names of the five policemen assaulted as Inspector Ogili
Ejikeme, Sergeant Edosa Sylvester, Sergeant Alizor Stephen, Corporal
Alawode Olusegun and Corporal Segun Adeniyi.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of
Sections 107, 170 and 348 of the Criminal Code, Law of Lagos State.
Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi granted the accused bail in the sum of
N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to January
18 for trial.
