Family’s 5 children burn to death in Kano

TRAGEDY struck on Saturday  at Kumbotso, headquarters of Kumbotso Council, when five children of same parents got burnt to death,  just as 10 others met their untimely death in a fatal accident which occurred last Saturday night in Takai community.

It will be recalled that 10 had earlier lost their lives in  similar accident  about a week ago, when a Golf car collided with a heavy duty vehicle, roasting all the passengers on board when the car caught fire.

However, the five children, who lost their lives in an inferno which engulfed their family house, had already been identified as the children of Magaji Tambaya, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Kano State University of Science and Technology.

Our source, who preferred anonymity, hinted that they were said to have been burnt beyond recognition at their WRECA residence in Panshekara, located in the suburb of Kano city.

According to the  Head of Operations, Fire Services, Kashim Musa Bichi, “the fire incident, which occurred at the official residence of the lecturer was reported at about 1.50 a.m on Saturday.”

He stated that the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, adding that it was not easy for his men, as they faced difficulties extinguishing the fire.

Bichi  further disclosed that investigation into the incident had commenced, as he appealed to residents to handle issues related to fire with care.

In another development, 10 people were feared dead in an auto crash which occurred on the Kano-Takai road, while scores sustained varying degree of injuries, when a Hiace bus collided with a J5 bus on Saturday on Kano-Kari highway.

He said  “the dead  bodies and t he injured have been taken to Dan’masara General Hospital, near Dutse, Jigawa State capital.”

Bichi then  cautioned drivers to always obey traffic rules and regulations while plying the highways, stressing that “the carnage we have witnessed on highways in recent times are avoidable.”
