Two transformer vandals arrested

The Power Holding Company of Nigeria says the Lagos State Police Command arrested two men for allegedly vandalising a transformer belonging to it.
The Assistant General Manager, Public Affairs, Pekun Adeyanju, said in a statement on Tuesday that the suspects were caught in the act on Monday at Oshodi area of the state where they were removing the four single core cables from the feeder pillar at LSDPC 500KVA Sehinde Calypso Transformer.
Adeyanju lamented that transformer vandalism was on the rise and called on members of the public to be vigilant and desist from tampering with transformers.
He said, “According to information available to Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, the vandals were arrested by a team of police men guarding a hotel near the transformer and were handed over to Akinpelu Police Station Oshodi for further interrogation and prosecution.
“However, the Management of PHCN Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company expressed her sincere appreciation to Nigerian Police in assisting PHCN to arrest and prosecute the thieves and urged the police authority to ensure speedy prosecution of the vandals to serve as deterrent to others.
“We also implore the Community Development Association and other security agencies to assist in fighting the menace of vandalism of PHCN facilities in our society for appreciable progress in electricity industry.”
