A
tweet about acts of sex by a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, on
Wednesday, stirred up a hot debate among social media users.
Fani-Kayode,
in the tweet, gave lessons on sex, painting the picture of how
people reach orgasm during sex.
He
tweeted, “Sex is powerful. It is an act of worship. That is why people shout
things like “Oh my God” when they are at the height of orgasmic pleasure.”
This
prompted concerns that his account might have been hacked.
One
of his friends, Michael Sawyer, using the Twitter handle,
@ademolasawyer, tweeted at him, asking, “Hmm, has this account been
hacked?”
But
Fani Kayode replied saying, “No it has not.”
Another
friend of his, Viva Runor-Ifeoluwa, using @VivaRunor, stated, “
LOL! Mouth sealed. I guess you just had a great one lately, sir.”
Fani-Kayode
replied, “Not so.”
Consequently,
some Nigerians on the social media condemned the former minister for the
message while others applauded him.
On
lindaikeji.blogspot.com, where the tweet was munched and posted, many
slammed him for descending so low and being too raw.
Some
said Fani-Kayode threw caution to the wind wondering what type of lesson he
would be teaching children if they got to read his comment.
An
anonymous reader said, “I respect him as a person but it seems he’s morally
bankrupt; he is a danger to Nigerian youths.”
Another
anonymous commenter stated, “This was a former minister. No wonder Nigeria is
in such a useless condition.”
Another
person said, “I just can’t believe this public figure is desperately seeking
for attention these days. Oga Fani, respect yourself now! How ridiculous
can somebody’s father get?”
On
ladunliadi.blospot.com, a reader, Ahdaisy Jayde, described Fani-Kayode’s
comment as distasteful.
The
reader stated, “I know it’s a joke but am I the only one who doesn’t find this
funny? I think it’s quite distasteful. People shout ‘Oh my God’ when they hear
bad news, does that make it an act of worship?”
On
this same blog, an anonymous reader said, “What is wrong with this Femi guy,
he’s so…, he should be thinking of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
and not sex.”
Another
reader on the blog said, “I can’t believe his utterances these days. He has so
much disappointed me. He is behaving like a juvenile, not because it’s okay
does not mean it should be said.”
Disagreeing
with Fani-Kayode on Facebook, Tochi Eze-Nliam said, “I doubt that. Because if
you shoot someone the person would most likely shout, ‘Oh my God!’ Is pain act
of worship too?”
Others,
however, shared the former minister’s sentiment.
Nakpozie,
a reader on lindaikeji.blogspot.com, said, “But I don’t see
anything bad with the comment because their seems not to be iota of lie in it.”
Another
reader Ademola, also stated, “Gbam! True talk” while Emmanuel
Onwubiko wrote on Fani-Kayode’s Facebook page, “The whole truth and
nothing but the truth.”
But
when Fani-Kayode discovered that a lot of social media users were castigating
him for the tweet, he hurriedly posted some clarifications about his comment.
On
his Facebook page, Fani-Kayode stated that it was his friend that shared the
thought with him and went on to ask his fans on the platform, if it was true.
He
stated, “A friend of mine told me that sex is an act of worship which involves
the generation of awesome spiritual power and cosmic energy. She said that is
why people shout things like ‘’oh my God’’ when they are at the height of
orgasmic pleasure. Is this true or false?
“I
believe that sex is definitely an act of worship. Within marriage it is a gift
from God which leads to life and procreation. Outside of marriage it is a gift
from the devil which leads to decay and destruction.
“Extra-marital
sex actually leads to the invocation of demons. Sex within marriage leads to
the invocation of angels. My wife once told me that when two people make love
their souls actually touch. This I believe to be true. The mystery of sex is
lost on many. It can be beautiful but it can also be very dangerous.”
