Robbers devise new method, rob traders in Ibadan

IT was a song of sorrow for four traders in Ibadan on Monday after being dispossessed of their money, bags and other valuables in circumstance that could have never  been imagined.

The traders, who were food selllers, were on their way to Bodija market from Oja Oba around 11.00 a.m. when the driver of a 10-seater bus which they boarded at Oja Oba made a detour at Orita-Mefa roundabout after being notified by a passerby that there was traffic congestion at Secretariat area.

Recounting her experience, one of the victims, Mrs Monsura Abanikanda, who looked unsettled, told the Nigerian Tribune that the bus took off from Oja Oba, where passengers boarded vehicles going to Bodija, UI and Ojoo and that she met four ladies and two men in the bus at the time she  boarded.

Speaking further, she said the bus took off when three other passengers joined them, adding that the vehicle on getting to Orita-Mefa junction, made a detour towards University College Hospital road after the driver was informed there was traffic gridlock at Secretariat area.

She explained further that the driver, after linking UCH road, turned to another untarred road, where vehicles and people hardly passed and on linking the road, one of the two men seated in the front shouted at them to surrender all they had.

She said they were more shocked when the four ladies, who were seated at the back, equally ordered the four of them, who were traders, going to Bodija, to comply or lose their lives.

Mrs Abanikanda, who said she personally lost N250,000, handset, ID card and pictures to them, disclosed that the six thieves including the driver, zoomed off after the dispossession, leaving the four of them.
