Gunmen attack market in Borno

Gunmen on Monday attacked a market in a community, South of Borno, killing one person, while some gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram in another attack on a police station shot dead a policeman. Daily Sun gathered that gunmen numbering about seven had stormed Lassa Market, Askira Uba Local Government Area, South of Borno at about 5.30p.m on Monday shooting sporadically.
“The gunmen are suspected to be armed robbers, about seven. They rode to the market on motorcycles and opened fire. One man died in the attack, while some traders were injured. They also snatched a car,” Malam Suleiman told Daily Sun. Also, some gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram invaded Konduga, Headquarters of Konduga Local Government, 40 kilometres away from Maiduguri.
The gunmen were said to have attacked a police station with Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Residents claimed a policeman was killed in the attack, while the gunmen took a vehicle believed to be a police patrol van away. When contacted, Spokesman of the Joint Task Force, Lt Col Sagir Musa directed the Daily Sun to the state police command.
“I cannot comment on the incidents, I advise you to direct your inquiry to Borno Police Command because it is police issue,” Sagir said. Efforts to get the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Jubrin Gideon did not yield result as he could not be reached on phone.
