THE Chief Magistrate Judge of No-man’s-land, Kano, presiding Magistrate, Muktar Ahmed, has ordered three teenagers who allegedly committed a culpable homicide (killing one with broken bottle) to be remanded in prison custody till 25th April, 2013.
According to the prosecutor in charge of the offence, Inspector Anthony Edward, said the accused persons, all teenagers, namely, Chibundo Hezikiah (17), Lotanna Goodluck (16) and Chidiebere Okepelu, all residing on Aminu Road, Sabon Gari, were alleged to have used a broken bottle to stab their victim, identified as Victor Ogbonna, an 18-year old SS2 student on the chest.
In the process, it was learn that the victim sustained injuries, at the end of which he was rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he subsequently died, following the injuries he sustained from the stabbing.
Shortly after the incident, the matter was reported to the Sabon Gari Police Division on April 4, 2013 by Chisom Ugwege, residing at 22, Aminu Kano Road, Sabon Gari but the case was later transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), while the incident occurred on April 3, 2013 at about 8.25 p.m.
When the charges were read to the accused persons, they all denied the allegations, while the defence counsel, John Okah later appealed for bail application, which was objected to by the Prosecutor, Inspector Anthony Edward on the grounds that if their requests are granted, they may likely jump bail, pointing out that he relied on the nature of the offence committed.
