*police arrest two nurses
Homicide
detectives of the State’s Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti,
Yaba, Lagos, have arrested two nurses in connection with the death of a
day-old-baby boy.
The nurses, Lillian Ajonuma and Anieke work at Christ
the King Catholic Church Primary Health Clinic, situated at 60, Igbehinadun
Street, off Shasha road, Akowonjo, Lagos State, where the baby fell out of his
crib, believed to be faulty and due for change.
The incident which happened on March 9,
2013, had left the parents of the baby, who are members of the Christ the King
Catholic church, at logger heads with the church.
The incident occurred just hours after
delivery by the baby’s mother, Mrs. Sidian Mcwhittingtion.
The nurses were accused of placing the
day-old baby in a cot in the hospital, which allegedly had no railings. And before
anyone knew what was happening, the baby had fallen out, hitting the floor.
The baby was rushed to another
hospital, but died on the way to the hospital.
It was also gathered that the mother
registered in their church clinic and had been attending ante-natal and until
that fateful day that labour pangs started.
Before her husband, Godsent, got her to
the hospital, she had delivered in the car. The happy husband had still decided
to take mother and baby to the clinic for medical checkup. It was while they
were at the hospital for the check up, that the incident occurred. The late
baby would have been the couple’s second child.
