Kano mass wedding: 15-yr-old girl marries 60-yr-old

A 15-year-old girl who got married to a 60-year-old man was among 1,000 couples that were wedded in a mass wedding ceremony on Sunday in the ancient city of Kano.
The marriage ceremony, which was held on Sunday evening, was attended by an unprecedented large crowd. The new couples who got married had Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to thank for organising the wedding ‘fathia.’
The 15-year-old girl, Barkisu Jemilu, who hailed from Tundun-Wada Local Government Area of the state, was reportedly the one who proposed marriage to the 60-year-old man, Alhaji Yahaya Baruku.
According to Baruku, “When Barkisu said she would marry me, I told her to look for her age mate for marriage but she declined.
“Barkisu said that she preferred me than to marry those young men because most of them were drug addicts.”
