THE police in Nasarawa State, on Friday, recovered 25 out of
100 cows stolen from a herdsman, Alhaji Bako Laminga, in Nasarawa Local
Government Area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Michael Ada, who disclosed this to newsmen at the state police headquarters in Lafia, said the police received a distress call on Thursday night from Laminga village along Nasarawa – Keffi road that about 15 cattle rustlers armed with sophisticated weapon had invaded a Fulani settlement and were shooting sporadically.
He explained that immediate intervention of the police, coupled with the assistance of some volunteers in the community, foiled the operation, as the marauders were trailed to a forest in the area, and the rustlers, having noticed the presence of the police, started shooting sporadically but had to flee due to the superior fire power of the officers that carried out the operation.
He said during investigation, Umaru, who hailed from Kano State told the police that he was hired by one Danlami Sani, an indigene of Sokoto State, residing in Laminga to convey the said cows to Ondo State.
