Police rescue 93-year-old baker from kidnappers’ den

Ondo State Police Command at the weekend rescued a 93-year-old man, Alhaji Musa Adisa Labaika, from his abductors’ hideout in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. Police detectives, who acted on a tip-off, stormed the hideout of the kidnappers in Ado-Ekiti and arrested three members of the gang.
Adisa was abducted last Wednesday around Isolo area of Akure while going to observe early morning prayers in a mosque close to his residence The police were able to trail the hoodlums through the mobile telephone number they used to demand N30 million from the family, 48 hours after the abduction.
The police arrested the owner of the phone, who had earlier been robbed by the gang, but he was let off the hook because the robbery had been reported while men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) were already working to unmask the robbers.
It was gathered that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) experts in the command were able to trace the call from the kidnappers to a house in Ado-Ekiiti and after ascertaining their targets, moved in Saturday and rounded up the hoodlums while their victim, who was the former president of the Ondo branch of the Association of Master Bakers, was released.
The suspects, who were said to have confessed to several robbery incidents including the one in which their operational car was snatched from a couple in Akure in February, were being kept in the custody of the SARS pending the conclusion of investigations and eventual prosecution in a law court.
