The police in Lagos have arrested six
people in connection with the recent upsurge in kidnapping activities in many
parts of the state
The state’s commissioner of Police, Umar Manko , while speaking with journalists, condemned payment of ransom to kidnappers , describing as an encouragement to the kidnappers.
Manko also assured that the police in the state will arrest the abductors of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area boss Kehinde Bamigbetan , who was recently kidnapped and arrested
He also confirmed that one of Bamigbetan's kidnappers escaped and died after jumping down from a three storey building hotel , where he was traced to.
Manko gave the names of the suspects as; Solomon Eze , Ikechuckwu Chedom , Sunday James , Christian Ezinkwo , and Emmanuel Iloakazi and added that 3 AK 47 riffles and 11 AK 47 riffles magazines , fully loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition each.
According to Manko , the suspects have all confessed to have taken parts in many kidnapping and armed robbery incidents in Lagos State. Manko stated that the gang had left their operational base in the Eastern part of Nigeria to settle in Lagos with their operational hideouts in Ikorodu , Ibeju Lekki and Ajangbadi areas of the state.

The CP , while narrating how the
state police command was able to burst the gang , stated that men of the
Special Anti Robbery Squad(SARS) of the state police command had on April 6,received information that the hoodlums
was wanted to strike in many parts of
the state.
He continued: "The police swung into action and tracked down one Solomon Eze , A K A in Ajegunle area of the state" and that during investigations " he confessed to several armed kidnapping within Lagos.
The
suspect allegeldy led SARS detectives to one of their hideouts in Ikorodu ,
where 1 AK 47 with the Serial No 6090 was recovered.He continued: "The police swung into action and tracked down one Solomon Eze , A K A in Ajegunle area of the state" and that during investigations " he confessed to several armed kidnapping within Lagos.
It was the same Solomon who led the detectives to where other members of the gang were hiding in Surulere , Ajegunle and Ajangbadi areas of the state.
Manko once again denied report that kidnapping incident was on the rise in the state, but assured residents to go about their lawful business, assuring them that the police in the state would ensure their safety.
He further decried what he described as lack of cooperation from the members of the public and relatives of kidnapped victims, who preferred to pay ransom to kidnappers, thereby encouraging the criminals to continue in their nefarious activities.
One of the suspects, Solomon, confessed to being a member of the gang and admitted also to have shared in the ransom , collected by the gang.
