THE Federal Government has said it was not considering amnesty for
members of the Boko Haram sect as nobody has come out to discuss with
it on the grievances of the group.
It, however, disclosed its
preparedness to first dialogue with the group and to consider the
amnesty option later if it becomes one of the conditions for peace.
The
position of government seemed to have finally nailed the amnesty
recommendation being put forward by some persons as an option to end the
series of killings by the group.
The Minister of Information, Mr
Labaran Maku, who made the position of government on the matter known
on Tuesday while playing guest at a Channels Television programme,
insisted that amnesty for the group could only be considered through a
process of dialogue and negotiation but not as first option.
