9 perish in weekend auto crashes

NO fewer than 9 persons lost their lives at the weekend.

Reports had it that eight persons, including five males and three females, lost their lives in one of the accidents at Godogodo, along Barde – Jos road, while four men and two women were said to have been critically injured.

Victims of the accident, said to have involved a Nissan Sunny, marked XB 715 SHA, and an Opel Vectra with registration number AG 647 BUU, had been taken to General Hospital, Kafanchan.

Another auto crash that reportedly occurred at about 2. 30 p.m. at Gwarmai, along Kano – Zaria road left one person dead when a Volkswagen Golf car, with registration number AM 540 BSA, lost control while on motion, with the remains of the victim said to have been deposited at Kura General Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it has arrested a total of 1,125 road traffic offenders during its special intervention patrol tagged “Operation Shield.”

Deputy Corps Marshal, Operations, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, who disclosed this while speaking with journalists during a monitoring exercise at one of the corridors designated for the special patrol along Gwagwalada-Abaji road.
