A guest at the Premier Inn in Greenock, Inverclyde, discovered 23-year-old Nicola McDonagh in a hallway. Her mother Margaret, 52, was found in a nearby room at around 7am today.
Mrs McDonagh died from her injuries at Inverclyde Royal Hospital. Her daughter is still being treated and her condition is described as critical.

Their red Suzuki Swift car has been taken from the car park of the hotel, in James Watt Way.
Detective Inspector David Wagstaff from Police Scotland said: 'We know that both women were in the Paisley area around 9am on Thursday May 9. However, we are trying to establish their movements from that time until 7am when they were found with serious injuries within a room in the hotel.
