A 59-year-old lawyer had dragged his
27-year-old lover to police station for refusing to marry him.
Policemen at Ikotun Police Station
were said to have watched as the mini drama between Barrister Eniola and his
lady love, Kemi played out.
Eniola told the police that Kemi
assaulted, stole from him and robbed him.
Eye witnesses claimed that two white
enveloped filled with money were given out by the lawyer to make the policemen
to get cracking, since it was clear that there was nothing criminal about a girl turning down a
marriage proposal.
Policemen had gone to the home of the
lady and confiscated her DSTV, pressing iron, generating set, Black berry
phone, sewing machines, among other items.
These were items the lawyer bought
for the girl while the going was good two years ago.
Not quite satisfied with collecting
the items he bought, lawyer told police to charge the matter to court.
News of the arrest and confiscation
of the girl’s property soon filtered into the ears of the area M commander, who
furiously ordered the IPO and DCO who had ordered for the girl’s property to be
confiscated to report to his office.
The IPO claimed she was following the
order of the DCO, while the DCO insisted that he was investigating a ‘fraud’
case against Kemi. Apparently, Kemi collecting several sums of money from
lawyer and then not marrying him was termed as fraud.
Chewing them to bits, the area
commander told them that it was a civil matter, not a criminal and as such, had
nothing to do with police.
The area commander invited the lovers
and before him the lawyer explained that for two years he had been under the
impression that kemi would marry him.
In fact, he insisted that Kemi
promised to marry him. and since then, he had been paying her school fees at
LASU and even bought her three sewing machines since she was also learning
sewing.
Eniola, a divorcee, said he became
worried after Kemi shifted their marriage introduction thrice.
But in June, this year, Kemi told him
that she would not marry him. Since then, they had been going to police
station, until this July when their IPO travelled and another person handled
the case. The case had soon become a criminal matter.
Trying to mend broken fences, the
area commander told Eniola to accept that Kemi had played a fast one on him and
also to realize that Kemi does not love him.
Eniola had however insisted that Kemi
must pay him the sum of N700, 000, which was the amount his clients remitted
into her account, which he gave to them. The money was supposed to be for their
marriage introduction he said.
But Kemi had denied knowing what the
lawyer was talking about. According to her, all money paid into her account by
Eniola’s clients, were paid to different accounts of Eniola’s children, by her,
on the instruction of Eniola.
According to Kemi, there was no time
she ever agreed she would marry Eniola. She said the situation turned nasty
after Eniola checked her phone and got angry because she did not saved his name
with ‘baby.’
The case continues.
