The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko has promised that the command would financially assist the Math teacher, Mrs. Taskirate Anjolaiya and her baby, Ammarah, who were knocked and critically wounded by a police corporal driving against traffic, at the Festac area of the state.
The accident has caused mother and daughter to sustain pelvic fracture, brain injury and a broken jaw among others.  The corporal was said to have been going on personal errand for his boss, the Divisional Police Officer, in charge of Festac Police Station, when the accident occurred.
Addressing journalists on Monday, in his office, Manko said: “The incident was not immediately brought to my notice. I only got to hear it after the PPRO saw it on internet and alerted me. We asked that the corporal be brought here and he came and had made a statement. The DPO had also made a statement.
“By the time we are through with the investigation, everyone will take their own portion of blame. The command will see what it can do to help the victims, but solely compassionate basis.
“The DPO and corporal were not working for the police as at the time of the incident.  The corporal went against the laws of the police, traffic and state government by driving against traffic. And this is a man who is supposed to enforce adherence to the traffic law in the state. Police are supposed to enforce the laws, not break it! They’ll face the consequent.”
