AN Osogbo Magistrate Court, on Friday, ordered two suspected thieves,
namely Bolaji Omolayo and Abdulrauf Abdulwasiu to sweep the court hall
for a week for disrespecting the court.
The duo deliberately failed to appear before the court on the 6th of
June when their pending case of alleged stealing was called for hearing.
Omolayo and Abdulwasiu could not establish a valid reason for failing to show up on the aforementioned date.
When their plea was taken, both pleaded guilty to a count charge of intentionally disrespecting the court.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Solomon Oladele told the court that
the offence committed by the duo was contrary to section 133(9) of the
criminal code cap. 34 vol. 11 laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.
The defense counsel, Mrs Nnnena Ngwu prayed the court to be lenient in its punishment with her client.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs Ademola Olowolagba pronounced that the
duo should sweep the entire hall of her court for a week as punishment.
