2 sisters killed over witchcraft allegation

TWO sisters, Maryam Ashiru, 60 and Asiya Ashiru, 57 years old were unjudicially killed by an angry mob at Kila village of Gwaram Local Government Area in Jigawa State for alleged witchcraft.
Reports from the state indicated that the women were attacked by the people of the village following the death of one Abubakar Sule, 27 years old, who was allegedly killed by the two sisters.
Findings revealed that the incident happened around 9:00 p.m when the family of the late Abubakar Sule attacked the two women in their house, slaughtered them and set the house ablaze.
Narrating how the incident occurred, Sani Ashiru a son to one of the victims, Maryam, said, “the people of the village attacked their house and killed his old aged mother and her sister after the death of one of their neighbours”.
Sani further said about three years ago, an elder brother to Abubakar Sule fell sick and died the family of the deceased and some people accused our family for killing him, the matter was settled at Sharia court after swearing by Holy Quran that, we (our family) are not witches and we were also not responsible for his death.
He added that, “some few weeks ago Abubakar Sule fell sick, his family also accused us of the sickness and threatened to kill our family if he dies and unfortunately he died”.
According him “Shortly after his death, some members of his family along with many other people in the village attacked our house, before they reached the house, virtually all our family members ran away leaving helpless, my old age mother and her sister”.
“The attackers without any hesitation slaughtered my mother and sister also mutilated their dead bodies, they burnt our house completely with all our belongings inside” Sule emphasised.
When contacted, the Jigawa State command’s Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Abdu Jinjiri confirmed the incident, he said two people have arrested in connection with the un judicial killing.
