Lagos State Chief Judge (CJ), Justice Olufumilayo Atilade, has
decried the increasing rate of sexual offences.
She said the method and
procedure for handling the prosecution of these offences must be
critically appraised.
The CJ reiterated that the Lagos State Administration of Criminal
Justice Law 2011 (ACJL) was a revolutionary law enacted to enhance the
Administration of Criminal Justice in the state.
Speaking at a workshop organised by the state Ministry of Justice and
the Judiciary in partnership with the Legal Defence Assistance Project
(LEDAP), on effective implementation of the ACJL, Atilade said the
scourge had become rampant in society. She also said that the purpose of
the workshop was to ensure uniformity among magistrates in the
implementation of the provisions of the ACJL.
The CJ called for better synergy among stakeholders in the Justice
Sector Agencies, while deliberating on issues bordering on the
interpretation of the ACJL, with particular reference to sexual offence
cases.https://newtelegraphonline.com/rising-sexual-assault-cases-worrisome-lagos-cj/
