Security guard killed heading to bank, money carted away

A bank customer was shot dead and his money carted away by four suspected armed robbers at the Apapa area of Lagos State.

The bank customer was said to have been attacked and money carted away by the bandits just as he was heading to the bank to make a deposit for his madam.
The deceased has been identified as Kingsley Chukwu, a private guard attached to a residential apartment at Creek Road. He was killed at Commercial Road.
Chukwu was said to have been trailed by the gunmen who were two motorbikes. While he was shot by one of the men, another snatched the bag containing his money from him. They immediately rode off.
An eye witness, who identified himself as Kareem Maju, said the deceased was rushed to a private hospital, but died while the hospital was demanding police report.
Maju explained: “Chukwu worked with a woman at Creek Road. He was sent by his madam to deposit some money. He kept the money in a bag and mounted a motorcycle to Commercial Road. On reaching the bank, he alighted and paid the motorcyclist. Suddenly, two motorbikes appeared from nowhere with two persons on each. One of them ordered him to bring the bag, but he refused, and another shot him. The bullet got him on the hand. He tried to run into a building, but was shot on the back. The bullet perforated his stomach. The man that fired the first shot walked up to him and collected the bag from him.”
Policemen from Apapa division who visited the scene removed Chukwu's corpse.
The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dolapo Badmus, confirming the incident, said: “It was a case of attempted robbery of a bank customer at Apapa. As policemen posted to the bank were closing in on the fleeing robbers, the robbers shot a customer, whom they presumed was delaying their movement. The command is on the trail of these fleeing robbers. The command will not give up in ensuring that it gets robbers off the road.”
