Stepmother severs two month- old boy’s genitals

At the weekend, a housewife, Baraatu Rabiu, allegedly severed the penis of her two-monthold stepson, Buhari Dauda, who was left in her care.

Baraatu, who is now in police custody, reportedly committed the offence at Daikpe village at Kuta community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
However, the baby survived the attack after doctors battled to save his life. A paediatric surgeon at the Ibrahim Babangida Specialist Hospital, Minna, Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, promised that Buhari had been reacting to treatment and now in a stable condition.
Abdullahi said in an interview with our correspondent that “although the little boy has survived the attack, he has been inflicted with a permanent scar in his life. He would grow up into adulthood without a functional penis.
“In fact, I can assure you that the boy will survive the attack but he would not have a functional male organ”. Investigation showed that the mother of Buhari (Bashira) could not conceive after five years of marriage. There was pressure on her husband to get a second wife.
But unknown to the husband, Bashira was pregnant before he took the second wife, Baraatu, four months ago. When Bashira’s pregnancy became noticeable, Baraatu was not happy. She decided to kill the baby after birth. Meanwhile, the state chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) has described Baraatu’s action as a sin against humanity and a wicked act.
The Chairperson of the association, Hajiya Maryam Jibo, said yesterday that FIDA would follow the matter to its logical conclusion. She said: “Enough of this heinous crime in our society. We will take care of his hospital bills until he gets better. If possible, we will take him to Abuja for another medical examination.
The poor parents cannot afford it.” Jibo urged police to expedite action on investigation and charge the matter to court without delay so that FIDA could take it up from there and bring the woman to book.
In their responses, the parents of the victim, Mr. Mohammed Dauda and his wife, Mrs. Bashira Dauda, who all hail from Daikpe village, said they were still in shock over the fate of their child. Dauda, 31, said he still could not say what prompted Baraatu to commit such dastardly act on an innocent child.
The couple noted that prior to the unfortunate incident, they had no problem whatsoever with Baraatu. According to them, they accord her due respect as a wife in their home. They added that the woman was being fed regularly, clothed and accommodated in the same apartment.
Dauda said: “This is our first child five years after marriage. I only married Baraatu four months ago and I cannot remember offending her in anyway to have warranted this act.” But Baraatu told journalists at the State Police Command Headquarters that it was the devil who manipulated her.
She said: “I will not say anything again until I see my husband and my co-wife.” The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bala Elkana, confirmed the incident. He said the woman would be charged to court soon.https://newtelegraphonline.com/stepmother-severs-two-month-old-boys-genitals/
