The wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Mrs Asmau Ndayako Idris, has urged policemen empower their wives as a means of tackling recession and having a peaceful home.
Idris, who is also the President
Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), made this call during a visit to the
Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, where she was hosted by the State’s
Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Abiodun Odude.
Idris, a lawyer by training, said:
“Officers please give your wives respect. Empower them. You can't do all things
alone, especially in this recession period. A woman is a multiplier. When you
empower your wives, you will see how things will turn around for good for you.
She will take some burden off your shoulders and there will be peace in your
homes. When you empower your woman, she will give you joy."
Idris, who used the opportunity to
appreciate the efforts of policemen in Oyo State, especially in the manner they
carry out their duties, noted: “We appreciate the efforts of our men who are
always out during the day and night to ensure that we all have a safe society,
free of crime. They are always there to protect us so that we can have a sound
sleep. I was so overjoyed when the First Lady of Oyo State, Dr. Mrs Ajimobi,
said that the Oyo State Police are doing well. I’m proud of you all, because a
policeman can only achieve when the wives are doing wonderfully well at home. I’m
happy my sisters here are taking good care of their husbands.
“We must make sure we give our
husbands, peace of mind at home. And husbands ensure your homes are in order. I
believe this will go a long way towards ensuring that you do your job effectively.
All we ask as wives in return is that you should love us.”
She further advised both women and
men living in the police barracks to ensure that the barracks are always clean.
She said: “We all must see the
cleaning of the barracks as our individual job and not government job. We must
all have the mind of cleaning our environment so that we can have a good
environment that will result to good health.”
The wife of the Oyo State
Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Olamini Odude, commending Idris, said: “I pray
that all women that are here today will go back home and make good use of their
initiatives in making sure they have a clean environment in our barracks.”
The CP, Abiodun Odude, said: "I want to say that POWA is a very
essential to police work. The police strength is always 100 percent dependent
on POWA because when you don't have a peaceful home, there is no way you can go
out and work. I thank the Oyo State POWA for its support.”
