Police in Lagos have arrested, a 30 year-old man, Sulaimon
Adigun for allegedly defiling a ten year –old girl at Bariga area of the
State.
The suspect, who is popularly called ‘rubber’ was said to
have being making love with the girl since January 2017 when she was in
primary six without the parent noticing it.
The incident which happened at No, 43 Olorunkemi Street, Bariga was said to have threw the community into confusion, about the action of the suspect whom they see as an easy going person.
It was learnt that the suspect dragged the girl into his
apartment when she was going to mosque to pray in the morning around 6:
am and make love to her.
The counselor of the victim school was said to have been
the one that detected that the girl has been abused, when her friends
were playing and ask themselves to swear if man have not touch her. But
the reverse is the case for the victim.
“she suddenly became calm when her friends ask her to
swear, that was what drew the attention of the counselor who asked her
what the problem was unfortunately, she opened up to her how their
neighbor had been making marathon love with her for over a year and she
was referred to Mirable medical centre at Lagos State University
Teaching Hospital, Ikeja for medical test and it was confirm she has
been abused.”
.Our correspondent also learnt that the first time the
suspect slept the girl, he was alleged to have covered her mouth with
cloth and defile her and he had been sleeping with her.
The Coordinator for Child Protection Network, Mr. Toyin
Okanlawon who reported the matter to Lagos State Neighbourhood Corp
(LNSC), the suspect was immediately picked and he was handed over to
Bariga police Station for prosecution.
Okanlawlon said, The suspect confessed at the police
station that whenever he does not go to work he always make love to
minors in the community.
He said: “ The family of the suspect had been threatening
the victim’s parent that was why I took up the case to get justice for
them, because he had denied sleeping with the girl but later confessed
and begged forgiveness that it was devil.
“The suspect also claimed that the girl used to come to his room to seek for assistant not that he forces her.”
Okanlawon however said, The situation would have been
averted, if the mother of the victim had acted fast when her daughter
told her about the abused.
“when the victim told her mother about what the suspect
had been doing to her. Her mother said she is saying nonsense, because
she never believe such a thing could happen under her nose with a very
close neighbor whose sister is her friend.
The case, it was learnt has been transferred to the gender unit of the police command for further investigation.
When contacted the Lagos State Police Command, Police
