Man defiles girl after promise to pay school fees

Clement James, Calabar.
A 59-year-old Okon Edet Okon, has allegedly defiled a 12-year-old girl after he promised to pay her school fees.

The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Austin Agbonlajor, who presented the suspects to journalists, along with other suspects that allegedly committed different offences, explained that Okon lured the victim into his house at No. 12 Eyo Ishie Street in Calabar, and sexually defiled her. He later didn’t give her the promised school fees.
Agbonlajor said: “On 1st April, at about 9:30pm, the victim was returning home after being sent out of school for not paying her school fees, when she ran into Okon. He promised to give her money for her school fees and lured her into his house, where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her without giving her the school fees he promised. When the victim got home and was pulling off her pant to take her bath, her mother saw blood stains on her pant and inquired from her what happened. The victim told her mother what the suspect did to her. The victim was taken to hospital for medical examination to ascertain her health status.  Meanwhile, the suspect has been charged to court.”
Another suspect, Affiong Ene Mkpang (37), was arrested for stealing a two-month old baby in Bakassi.
He said: “The mother of baby, Ekaette Bassey Udo, had reported that she left her baby boy, Imoh Okon Sunday, in her room and went to fetch water. She returns to see a two-year-old baby girl in place of her boy. Detectives swung into action and arrested Affiong Ene Mkpang at Ene Edem Street in Calabar South with the baby boy.  The two year old girl, Amanda Philip Okang, has been kept with the Ministry of Social Welfare, Calabar as investigations are on to unravel the true relationship between the suspect and the abandoned two year old girl.”
