Man disappears after impregnating, procuring abortion for underage girl

Detectives attached to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command have launched a man-hunt for one Mr Sochi, who allegedly impregnated a 16-year-old and compelled her to go for an abortion, leading to complications.

The girl’s father, Remigus, found out that something was wrong with his little girl when she started bleeding incessantly.
Remigus’ lawyer had since written a petition addressed to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Muazu Zubairu, alleging that Sochi of abduction and having unlawful canal knowledge of his daughter, Precious.
The father said: “He forced Precious to procure unlawful abortion, resulting to complications, which included excessive bleeding, which nearly took her life. He abandoned her to her fate.”
It was gathered that the father had been taking Precious from one hospital to another and incurring medical bills, in other to save her life.
The CP, after receiving the petition, referred it to the Gender Unit for investigation. The attention of the Network on Police Reforms (NOPRIN), was also drawn to the matter.
The national coordinator of NOPRIN, Okechuku Nwanguma said: “The Gender unit sent a formal invitation to the accused at his residence but he refused to honour the invitation. Attempts to arrest him have also been futile as the accused person abandoned his apartment and only sneaks in occasionally at odd hours as corroborated by the security guard attached to his residence. In further effort to arrest the culprit, and with prodding from NOPRIN, the Gender Unit requested the FESTAC Police Station which is the nearest police station to the residence of the accused person to assist in tracking and arresting him. Again, FESTAC Police Station dropped an invitation for the alleged culprit through the security guard who again confirmed that he handed the invitation to him one late night when he sneaked in to the house and left shortly after collecting the invitation from him.”
Precious allegedly told her father that on or about October 2018, Sochi visited her several times at a Pharmacy where she worked and expressed interest in having an affair with her, but she told him that she was not interested.
The victim, who said that she gave her phone number to Sochi after he and another of his friend pressured her, said that he often used to call her.
Precious reported said: “On the day of the incident, Sochi offered to pick me from my work place to our house after I had closed from work. I turned down the offer. Sochi insisted on waiting until I closed. He lured me into his car ostensibly to drive me home but ended up taking me to his own house against my will. He took advantage of me and raped me.”
Before having intercourse with her, he promised he would see her father if she got pregnant. She alleged that Sochi overpowered her and had canal knowledge of her.
In November, 2018, she told Sochi that she was pregnant and he asked her to use abortion drugs or forget about him.
Nwanguma said: “Sochi gave her the abortion drugs (Miso-fem) to swallow. She was too scared to use the drug. She called and told him, but he asked her not to call him again if she refused to use the drugs. ‘He said he was not responsible for the pregnancy from then onwards’ and stopped picking my calls’. She called him many times but he refused to pick and she decided to do his wish by swallowing the abortion drugs Sochi gave her.
“After taking the abortion drugs, she started bleeding heavily in the house and the father had to take her to the hospital where she was admitted for weeks for treatment, but she continued to bleed for a long time from the complications of the abortion. NOPRIN requests the CP to ensure that the culprit is arrested and that his lawyer should be made to produce him as he has repeatedly promised without fulfilling.”
